Top 10 reasons for monitoring brands - Using Social Media

Today it is very easy and almost without cost, to share information with the masses. Information, opinions and comments made public via Web 2.0 tools are available for anyone to see forever. No geographic boundaries exist for your message, nor does it have any expiry date.

For these two reasons alone, it is important for any brand owner, to monitor what the public is saying about their brand in the social media space. Some thought should also be given to monitoring video and image sharing sites as well as traditional social networking ecosystems like twitter, facebook and blogs.

Wiki 2.0 and a new social Wikia

In an interview with The Guardian’s Jemina Kiss, Wikipedia-founder Jimmy Wales talked about how he wants to make Wikia (and wikis in general) easier to manage and create, as well as how to get Wikia editors to stay and curate the wikis they started longer.
Please read the planned features for Wiki 2.0 here. Key highlights
  • Integration of social tools to let users share their edits and contributions with friends
  • Highlighting of top editors so readers can see who created the content and learn more about them
  • Fan activity modules such as real-time streams, polls, top 10 lists, and achievement badges
  • New opportunities for brands to get involved in the conversation with their fans
The "game mechanics" is being re-emphasized with the new launch.

Web 2.0 in action! (Part 2)

Do you remember the wiki created to coordinate my disperse friends on their trip to India...

Well... I can tell you now: It's been a great success!!!
There is currently a lot of information, and most of it posted by them! I was just asking direct questions and helping a little bit with the technicalities... But even after a while, one of the guys took charge of the "administration" so 90% have been done without my intervention.

I can now say that the wiki, for the purpose of organizing "disperse" people for a common goal (at least a leisure trip to India) is very useful. Even more, the wiki was also used as a platform to arrange "cyber-meetings" in order to buy the different tickets (hotel, plane, package tours, etc...)

Just for your curiosity (and for your jealousy), I'll describe their itinerary:
25 Nov: Arrival in Hyderabad
26 Nov: Trip to Anantapur (Spanish NGO)
28 Nov: Wedding in Hyderabad
29 to 3 Dec: Kerala tour
3 to 7 Dec: Taj Mahal and Delhi

Not bad eh?
Cheers!
Carlos
